Turbulent times in Tacoma: Former Mayor William Baarsma recounts the Sept. 15, 1970, recall election that ousted five city council members – the so-called “Infamous Five.”

Landmark Series features Tacoma-area history

 The Landmark Series of local history talks is a cooperative effort of the Senior University program at Franke Tobey Jones Retirement Estates and Tacoma Historical Society. Programs are scheduled for 3 p.m. on the second Thursday. The programs are free and the public is invited.

Franke Tobey Jones is at 5340 N. Bristol St. in Tacoma.

The next scheduled program is Aug. 12. Amber Santiago and Jennifer Hallberg of the Historic Preservation Office of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians will discuss the tribe’s history.

 Other programs are scheduled for Sept. 9, Oct. 14 and Dec. 9.
